“Triple Helix Partnership” to develop Bali Beef Industry

Published: 12 March 2020

Central Queensland University (CQU) is set to join forces with industry, government and university partners to develop a sustainable high-tech ecosystem for livestock industry for Indonesia, focusing on cattle. The announcement made today, March 17, alongside partners Bappenas, Ganesha University of Education, Buleleng District Bali, and Trade and Investment Queensland. The partnership will encompass research, development, study, technology, industry engagement and supply chain development.

This project aims to produce high quality beef for domestic consumption and also achieve meat self-sufficiency for Indonesia, thereby reducing the need for meat imports. CQUniversity has reached a triple helix, which is strategic partnership among key stakeholders, i.e.: (1) university for research and human resources development (2) industry for investments and innovation (3) government for regulatory support, and has successfully improved both quality and quantity of beef in Rockhampton. This project aims to replicate the success in Indonesia, starting with Bali.

“With our headquarters in Rockhampton, the ‘Beef Capital’ of Australia, CQUniversity has a strong history of research within the Australian cattle and wider agricultural industries,” Professor Nick Klomp, CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor said.

“We also have a long history of undertaking research and development activities that are practically focused and designed for real world application, something that will be particularly important for this project”, Klomp further said.

“We are fortunate to be partnering with Queensland industry and university and government colleagues from Bali, to bring CQUniversity research experience and the Australian industry perspective to a new geographic application. The local perspective and understanding will be crucial to our collective success”. Said Minister Monoarfa of the Development Planning Agency.

The signing of the agreement will take place as part of the celebration of the opening of CQUniversity Australia – Jakarta Centre, a facility that offers professional development training for local industry and is also the delivery site for the Master of Management/Master of Business Administration education in partnership with Bakrie University.

“We are actively engaging with the Indonesian Government, regional governments, as well as research institutions to identify collaboration opportunities. The opening of the Jakarta branch, as well as the various partnerships we are currently engaged in is only the beginning of a closer relationship between CQUniversity and stakeholders in the education and research sector in Indonesia,” Professor Hendrik Halim, President Director of the CQUniversity Indonesia, said.
